The
Mooretown Flags will be moving on to the second
round of the Great Lakers Junior C playoffs with a
5-4 victory Saturday night against the Alvinston
Flyers, taking the series 4-1.
Mooretown
took early control in the first period, as Jake
Currie made it 1-0 for the Flags before the midway
point of the period. The Flags would enjoy a two
goal lead after Aaron Schieman scored thirty-three
seconds later, as the Flags held the Flyers to just
8 shots in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the
second period.
In the
second, the Flyers, playing for their season to
continue, got a powerplay goal from Greg Zavitz to
make it 2-1. Three minutes later the once 2-0 lead
would be dissolved as the Flyers Connor Thompson
scored his 1st of the playoffs to tie the game at
2-2. Both teams were even in shots in the second
period 10-10.
The third
began with Jason Teschke scoring his third of the
playoffs. But just twenty-six seconds later the
Flyers would retie the game, as Nick Atkinson would
make it 3-3. A minute after that the Flyers would
take their first lead in the game as Thompson got
his second goal of the night to put the Flyers up
4-3. But the Flags could smell the second round and
leading scorer Jason Teschke would answer back with
his second of the game to knot the game up once
more.
The nail
would final come for the Flyers as Schieman on the
powerplay would get his second of the game in what
would be the game winning goal, as the Mooretown
Flags are the first team to move on in the Junior C
hockey league.
Jordan
Gladwish made 22 saves in the victory while Brandon
Campbell stopped 36 shots in the loss.
Mooretown
will now wait for the winner of Wallaceburg and
Blenheim.
