Coach’s Corner
with Head Coach Bruce Aberhart
On
Tuesday Night, we travelled to Essex to face off against
the 73’s. The 8 – 4 score was not indicative of the
game. On the way to Essex we experienced some mechanical
problems with the bus, causing us to arrive at 6:45 PM
for a 7:00 PM warm-up. Needless to say we did not have a
lot of prep time to get ready for the game. Our guys
kept it close for the first period, as we only trailed
by a score of 3 – 2, much to the credit of Colton
James, who kept us in the game until our guys got their
legs. The second and third periods saw back and forth
action. We kept trying to close the gap on the
scoreboard, but the 73’s kept us at bay. The 73’ s two
goals late in third period put the game out of hand. Our
guys played hard but came out on the short end of the
stick.
After a
long trip home, our guys bounced back with a 6 – 1 win
over the Kingsville Comets. We played well offensively
and tidied up our defensive play. After one period of
play we were up by a score of 2 -1. When push came to
shove our guys responded to shut down the Comets and to
keep them off the score sheet, and we kept adding to our
score. In the third period we tightened up defensively
and we were able to score two late goals to seal the
win. Jason Teschke and Aaron Schieman scored two goals,
while single goals were scored by William Brandon and
Kurtis Glowa. Our Jordan Gladwich picked up the win by
making 39 saves. The Comets’ Andrew Polkosnik made 35
saves. After the two back to back games we definitely
were not unhappy with the team’s performance.
We are
looking forward to a weekend full of hockey. Tonight we
face off against the League’s defending Champs – the
Belle River Canadiens and then we are on the road to
face off against the Blenheim Blades.
