It very well
was a playoff preview, as the Mooretown Flags and
Alvinston Flyers took to the ice Saturday night in
Mooretown. With a big second period, the Flag's came
away with a 5-2 victory, and move six points ahead of
Alvinston in the North Division.
Alvinston had
the early advantage in the first period, as they lead
2-0. Chris Edwards and Chase Clark each had a goal and
an assist in the period two minutes apart to put the
Flyers up on the second place Flag's. But Mooretown
would respond and quickly. Adam Little made it 2-1 with
his powerplay goal. Six seconds later, Kurtis Glowa made
it 2-2. The Flag's were not finished in the second as
Cody Hardman made it 3-2, and Donny Bowling capped off
the period with his 7th of the season to put the Flags
up 4-2.
Alvinston was
held to just 9 shots in the final period and couldn't
slip any passed Jordan Gladwish, who made 29 saves on 31
shots. Adam Little would score his second of the game on
the powerplay late in the game to put the Flags up 5-2
and seal the victory.
With the win
the Flags move six points ahead of the Flyers, and get a
victory over their most likely playoff opponent.
Alvinston, who is 2-3 in the month of January, is still
nine points up on Dresden, and will most likely take on
the Flag's in the first round.
The two teams
will meet again, as the Flags have three games
remaining, two against Wallaceburg and another playoff
preview with Alvinston in between those games.
