The
Mooretown Flags were shutout Saturday night, as the
first place Wallaceburg Lakers were able to hold onto
the shutout, despite beating out shot 38-28.
Mooretown put 16 shots in
net in the first period, doubling up Wallaceburgs 8, but
neither team could find the back of the net, as the
first period ended still at 0-0.
In the second, the teams
shots were even at 11 each, but it was Wallaceburg who
found the net on the powerplay, as Rob Pollock scored
his 14th of the season to put the Lakers up 1-0. Tyler
Lewis and Norm Leger had assists on the mid-period goal.
The Flags could not respond and found themselves down
1-0 heading into the third.
To start the third the
Lakers increased their lead as Dustin Cope 3rd of the
season 2:37 into the period.
Mooretown again outshot the Lakers 11-9 but like the
periods before, Matt Berglund stopped all the shots he
faced to secure the shutout.
Jordan Gladwish stopped 26
of 28 shots in the loss.
The game had little effect
on the standings as Wallaceburg owns the number one
spot, and Mooretown the number two spot in the North
Division. Wallaceburg plays Blenheim in a back to back
games on Sunday and Wednesday before ending the season
against Mooretown next Saturday. Mooretown will take on
Alvinston on Friday, February 4th.
