Mooretown Flags vs Essex 73's

Mooretown hosted Essex 73's on Saturday night and took a final 6 - 4 loss after an empty net goal by Essex in the last minute of play.

Essex scored the only goal in the first period on a powerplay by Marco Maggio.  In the second the they continued the scoring and added two goals before Mooretown came back with a pair of their own close the gap.  Before the period was over Essex went up by 2 once again and the period ended with Essex leading 4 - 2.  Scoring for Essex were Brian Hamlin, Tony Spidalieri and Adam Verbeem.  Mooretown second period goal scorers were Jordan Pennesi and Brett Thompson (powerplay).

Third period action saw Mooretown come back to tie after a pair of goals by Mike Burns and Brett Thompson for his second of the night.  Midway into the period Essex regained the lead with Brian Hamlin scoring his second of the night and as they headed into the final minute Essex was fighting off a penalty and six attackers to score a shorthanded goal into the empty net.  Nick Nicodemo scored the insurance goal for the 73's.

Essex outshot the Flags 33 - 23.  Chris Zelko took the win for the 73's in net with a total of 19 saves.  Seth Anderson took the loss with a total of 27 saves.

Mooretown is on the road Sunday as they travel to Blenheim for a 7:15 pm start. This is the first of a home/home series as the two teams are back in Mooreotwn next Saturday at 7:30 pm at the Moore Sports Complex.
