The
Sarnia PeeWee Pacers
traveled to Wallaceburg on
Saturday to compete in the
Zone championship in hot and
humid conditions. As a
result of finishing first in
league play the Pacers were
matched up with the fourth
place Wallaceburg Griffins
in their semi-final contest.
The
Sarnia squad would come out
of the gates a little slow
and after falling behind 2-0
early in the first period
the boys began to find their
legs and took over the game
in the second and third
periods to come away with a
9-5 victory and a berth in
the championship game
against the winner of the
second semi-final between
London and Windsor. Having a
big day offensively for the
Pacers were Kaden Fulcher
with 4 goals and Logan Scott
with a hat-trick. Single
markers were also registered
by Ethan Dupont and Dylan
Lavoie with multiple assists
going to Brett Barnes with 3
and Griffin Dillabough and
Peyton Cox with 2 each. Cody
Haas put in a good
performance between the
pipes to get the win.
Between
games a few members of each
of the Zone teams competed
in a skills competition
which rewarded points for
goals, saves and speed and
ball control over three
different events.
Backstopped by a big effort
from the teams’ goaltenders,
who allowed zero goals in
the two events that they
were involved in, the Pacers
took first place in the
exciting competition.
In the
championship game the Pacers
would meet the London Blue
Devils who defeated Windsor
in their earlier contest by
a goal after overtime was
needed to determine the
winner. Both teams looked
like they were feeling the
effects of the heat as the
game lacked some of the
intensity of previous
meetings but the Pacers put
in a consistent effort and
were rewarded with a 7-2
victory and title of Zone 7
champs for 2010. Brayden
Bell was solid in net
thwarting the Blue Devils on
many of their early chances
and also chipped in with 2
assists to aid in the
offensive side of the game.
Jacob Caughlin had a big
game scoring a hat-trick and
coming close on many other
chances. Also adding single
goals were Jack Dunn,
Fulcher, Hunter Taylor and
Brennan McKegan. Logan Scott
also chipped in with 2
helpers.
The
PeeWee Pacers now begin
final preparations for the
Provincial Championship
tournament in Whitby. |
