Oakville comes
from behind to
defeat Pacers
by Andrew
Brethauer
The
Sarnia Pacers
played their
final game of
the season
Sunday afternoon
against Oakville
at the
Clearwater
Arena, and even
though they held
the lead through
two periods of
play, they were
not able to hold
off the playoff
bound Oakville
Buzz from coming
from behind for
the victory. The
Pacers scored
four times in
each of the
first two
periods, but
were held
scoreless in the
third. Oakville
added four of
their own to
take the game
10-8.
Sarnia opened
the scoring
early with a
goal by Conner
Smith at 1:22 in
the first. A
minute and
thirteen seconds
later, Oakville
responded with a
goal of their
own, but Sarnia
replied again at
3:36 with a goal
by TJ Mara to
reclaim the
lead. For the
next five
minutes Oakville
would go on the
offensive,
scoring three
goals to take
back the lead.
Mara brought
Sarnia back
within one with
his second of
the period, and
Aaron Schieman
tied the game at
four heading
into the second
period.
Twenty-five
seconds into the
second, Oakville
would retake the
lead with a goal
by Kevin Harper.
It would take
Sarnia ten
minutes to reply
with a
shorthanded goal
by Jimmy Purves.
But quick
scoring seemed
to be Oakville’s
key to victory,
as they replied
twenty-four
seconds later to
take the lead
back from the
Pacers. From
there Sarnia
would take
control of the
period, with
goals by Dan
Charlton and two
from Kevin
Conroy to give
Sarnia a 8-6
lead heading
into the final
period.
Oakville would
reply with a
goal at 3:42 to
make it a one
goal game. Andy
Wreggit would
score two in a
row, including a
shorthanded goal
to give Oakville
the leader.
Corbett would
add his third of
the night, and
sixth point of
the game to seal
the victory for
Oakville.
Sarnia ends
their season
with a 5-14-1
record, while
Oakville heads
into the
playoffs.
