Sarnia Legionnaires vs St. Mary's

September 18, 2010

By Dan McCaffery

Here's a preview of tonight's Jr. 'B' hockey game at the Brock Street Barn.

WHO -- Sarnia Legionnaires (1-2) vs. St. Marys Lincolns (2-1)

WHERE – Sarnia Arena, 7:10 p.m.

WHO TO WATCH Sarnia: Jesse Drydak, a 32-goal sniper last winter, scored his first of the new campaign on Tuesday against Strathroy. Goalie Mike Reed has played well in both his starts in the Legionnaire net

St. Marys: Big rubber-catcher Greg Dodds got a shutout last night as the Lincs edged the St. Thomas Stars 1-0. Josh Cornelissen, a former Legionnaire, got an assist on the only goal of the contest.

SIGNIFICANCE – The Legionnaires have won only one of three games. If they hope to be a serious contender for a top four finish (and home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs) they've got to start winning on a consistent basis. For the young Lincs a third win in just four games would be huge, giving them an unexpectedly strong start to the season.

HISTORY – St. Marys finished fourth last year, while the Legionnaires were sixth. But Sarnia lasted a couple of games longer in the post season, bowing out in seven games, while the Lincolns were eliminated in just five.
