first win before a
packed house at the
Clearwater Arena
against the St.
Thomas Stars.
After the first
period Sarnia led 2
- 0 with goals by
Marcus Gverzdys and
Tyler Chichini.
In the second period
St. Thomas scored
the lone goal on a
powerplay by Joel
Martinelli.
Third period action
saw Sarnia take a 2
point lead after
Tanner Tomlinson
scored at 7:48.
St. Thomas narrowed
that gap less than a
minute later with
Martinelli scoring
his second of the
night. Sarnia
held on to take the
3 - 2 win.
Sarnia's Goaltending
was shared by Mike
Reed and veteran
Kyle Washer each
allowing a single
goal. Reed
make some
spectacular saves in
the first half of
the game.
In previous
exhibition action
Sarnia took two
losses against the
Strathroy rockets
both games ended
with 6 - 5 scores.
Coach Jeff Perry was
not in attendance at
this game as he was
scouting at the
Sarnia Sting annual
Black and White
game.
Sarnia season begins
on September 9 in
Leamington, then on
the 14th against
Lambton Shores.
Their home opener is
on Thursday
September 16 against
Strathroy.
Home games will
begin at an earlier
time at 7:10 pm.
