Sarnia
Sting came out roaring, ready to play, and then the referee
dropped the puck. Kitchener was even hungrier, pounced on an
early give away, and made it 1-0 in the first 15 seconds.
Coach Drury quickly switched lines, calmed the team down,
and the Sting went down the ice into Kitchener territory.
After some
nifty moves and passing by Logan Tardif and Corey Smith, the
puck went to the far side, and Kaleb Zeytinoglu lifted the
puck into the empty corner from what seemed like an
impossible angle to tie the game.
Kitchener
was not ready to concede defeat and went down the ice 3
minutes later, and once again had a 2-1 advantage.
Sarnia
seemed asleep, Kitchener grabbed the puck, went down the ice
on a beautiful 2-1, and smacked the puck past Nick Steeves,
who didn’t have a chance on a beautiful conversion. The
Sting was now in a 3-1 hole, and needed to get moving.
Jason Caley
was not ready to let the game get away, Spencer Baillie and
Nathan Armstrong applied some great pressure, and Jason
Caley was able to knock in a close rebound to bring the
score to 3-2.
In the
second period, Gavin McGregor and Andrew Czyczurko applied
some good pressure, getting the puck out front to Cole
Goossens, who slapped at the puck, and put it behind the
Kitchener net minder to tie up the game at 3-3.
The Second
period was a high scoring, low defense period, Cole Goossens
once again found a close rebound in front of the Kitchener
net, and lifted it over the goalie to give Sarnia its first
lead of the game.
It didn’t
last long though, Kitchener sent a man down the wing, and
popped in a quick one, to tie it up at 4-4.
Jason Caley
wasn’t finished, he did some great digging, along with
Spencer Baillie, and some help from his D, and managed to
dig the puck free, and popped it into the Kitchener net!
Things were looking great for Sarnia, as we sat on a nice
lead……all the way to 3.8 seconds left, when the puck took a
funny bounce off our D, and landed onto the stick of one of
Kitcheners big forwards, who took the puck up the ice, and
wristed a great shot past Nick Steeves! There wasn’t any
time left for a final surge, and the Sting had to settle for
a tie 5-5!!
Honourable
mention to Nick Steeves who saw a lot of pucks, and the
Sting D, they did a great job of clearing the puck out of
our end. A few bad bounces gave the Rangers the chance to
come back!
Good Work
