by Andrew Brethauer

The Lambton Shores Predators opened up their home arena for the 2010-2011 season Saturday night with a close 4-3 loss to the visiting St. Mary's Lincolns in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey. Lambton Shores managed to escape the first period only down 2-0 after facing 28 shots from the Lincolns. Sean Consitt scored early at 3:08 in the first to give the Lincolns a 1-0 lead. They would add a power play goal, their only goal of 9 power play opportunities, at 10:14 to take a 2-0 lead into the second.

Lambton Shores would respond early in the 2nd, with Matt Rupert scoring the only goal of the second period to keep the Predators to within one. But the Lincolns would restore their two goal lead early in the third with a goal from Mike Manderelli at 4:25. Ryan Rupert would respond three minutes later to get Lambton Shores back to within one, but St. Mary's would add another five minutes later for what would be the eventual game winner. Adam Arseneault would add a goal for Lambton Shores late, but the Predators could not find the back of the net in the last minute to send the game into overtime.

Ryan Rupert lead Lambton Shores with a goal and two assists giving him the second star of the night. First start honours went to Predators Goalie Chris Clarke, who turned away 54 shots in the loss.

Lambton Shores plays Sarnia next on Tuesday, September 14th at the Lambton Shores Rec Centre at 8:00 PM.
