London Early Bird Tournament
September 24 - 26, 2010

The Minor PeeWee Jr. Sting team participated in their second tournament of the 10-11 season in London.

Game #1 vs Oakville Jr. Rangers

The Jr. Sting Minor Peewee’s started out the tournament against an OMHA team from Oakville on Friday afternoon.

The Jr. Sting played a very strong, disciplined game and generated many scoring opportunities but were only able to dent the twine once. Conner Royer took the puck wide and used his speed to break in and bury one five-hole. Oakville then tied it up on a goalmouth scramble. It appeared that the Jr. Sting’s Royer had given the Jr. Sting a late lead and the referee at the net even signaled a goal but it was eventually over-ruled and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Conner Royer scored the lone goal and was the Game MVP.
Ryan Brown had the assist.
Ethan Hunt had a strong game in net.

Game #2 vs Rochester Alliance

The Jr. Sting were up against the New York based Rochester Alliance in game two on Friday night.

The game was played at the smaller Carling arena and the boys never quite seemed to find their legs. The game was a seesaw affair with both teams swapping goals. Jack Hackett got things started for the Jr. Sting, scoring a short-handed effort off a rebound from a Ryan Gould drive. Rochester replied to tie it up. The Jr. Sting’s Max Steeves then scored on a rebound from a Cade Robbins’ shot to give the lead back to the Jr. Sting after period one.

Rochester answered back with two goals of their own to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. Conner Royer scored to tie the game at 3-3. Then Jack Hackett scored his second short-handed goal of the game on a beautiful individual effort to give the Jr. Sting the victory.

The boys battled back and picked up the win to make the morning contest against Halton critical.

Jack Hackett scored two goals and was the game MVP.

Max Steeves and Conner Royer each had one goal.

Ryan Gould, Cade Robbins, Daniel Wellington and Nicolas DiScanno each had one assist

Ethan Williams got the win in net.

Game #3 vs Halton Hurricanes

The Jr. Sting were up against the 2-0 Halton Hurricanes on Saturday morning.

The Jr. Sting looked confident and at times took the play to the OMHA based Halton team. Lambton peppered the Hurricane goalie with many shots and the line of Jared Pageau, Ryan Brown and Conner Royer hemming them in for multiple shots.

The goalie was up to the task and continued to shut down our boys. Halton opened the scoring and the scored stayed 1-0 until late into the third period when Halton would score again. Lambton played a strong game and just needed to capitalize on the power play opportunities to get a different outcome.

Ethan Hunt played a strong game in between the pipes and was the game MVP.

Game #4 vs London Jr. Knights

The Jr. Sting were up against league rival, the London Jr. Knights in the final game of the tournament. With Halton already guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals, the game was for bragging rights. Both teams played a hard hitting, fast paced game with multiple power play opportunities for both squads. The game was knotted at zeros through the first two periods until Garrett Miller made a nice rush and gave it to Jared Pageau on the door-step and he fired home the opening marker. Unfortunately the lead did not hold up as London tied it up and then late in the third period the Jr. Knights scored the winner short-handed after a mix-up on a defensive zone face-off. Lambton was not able to produce any last minute heroics and the game ended in a 2-1 loss for the Jr. Sting.

Jared Pageau scored the only goal with Garrett Miller assisting.
Brennan McKegan played a strong two-way game and was the game MVP.
Ethan Williams had an outstanding game in net.
