Oshawa Lady Generals Fallfest Cup

A weekend in Oshawa proved most rewarding for the Sarnia JR. Lady Sting Bantam A's with the team defeating the Whitby Wolves 1-0 to claim the Oshawa Lady Generals Fallfest Cup.

It was heavy hearts that the girls headed off to Oshawa after the passing of their friend Llew Falla, everyone played with passion to bring home the title in memory of Llew. The entire weekend was a positive experience for Sarnia with 5 wins and a tie.

Sarnia's round robin victories were a 3 to 0 win over Scarborough with Makenna Harrison, Sydney Wiess and McKayla Eves scoring.Assist went to Jenelle Labadie , Naomi Parsons and Wiess. The second victory  was  a shut-out versus the Brantford Ice Cats in which Sarnia scored 8 times . Amy Rawlings along with Wiess and Labadie each scored twice while singles went to Emily Regan and Kassie Roache. Helping to set up the scoring were Beatrice Dufour, Jenna Rops, Courtney Sinclair, Leslie Brandon, Roache, Wiess and Eves.

Game 3 versus Guelph was a much closer affair with Guelph gaining the tie as they scored with 37 second left in play. Sarnia goal scorers were Rawlings and Roache with assists to Labadie , Wiess, Rops and Riley Wilhelm.

Coming out of round robin play in first Sarnia played the #3 wild card team which turned out to be Guelph. Sarnia was relentless this time defeating Guelph 6 to 0 as Kassie Roache scored the hat trick along with Wiess, Dufour and Eves. Helping with assists were Wilhelm, Wiesss, Regan , Labadie and Parsons.

The semi-finals were next  against the Orangeville Tigers . Sarnia  opened the scoring in the first 13 seconds as Rawlings scored from Rops. Orangeville responded in the second period to tie the score but Courtney Sinclair on the power play from the point picked the top corner of the net to put Sarnia in to the lead. Follow up goals by Roache [2] and Labadie secured the win and a spot in the finals.

The final versus Whitby was a great contest between to evenly matched teams. It took until the last minute of the second period before Labadie off a pass from Brandon put Sarnia ahead 1-0. Relentless fore checking, a strong defence and the superb goaltending of Karley Ferguson preserved the win for Sarnia. Ferguson play through out the tournament was strong with a number of saves at crucial times.
