vs Wheatley
Flyers lose 4 – 3 in overtime
The Alvinston
Flyers of the Great Lakes Jr. C league
hosted SouthPoint from Wheatley at Watford
Arena on Friday, Sept. 24th.
Southpoint opened up the scoring late in the
first, but the Flyers used a 2 man advantage
to even the scoring. Dan Warner scored with
assists going to Chad Rainsberry and Brock
Pinnell. A deflection put Southpoint ahead
again, but Chris Edwards came from behind
the net and scored an unassisted powerplay
goal to bring the score to 2-2. Special
teams played a big role in the game, with
Southpoint scoring their third on the
powerplay. Edwards intercepted a pass and
scored on a breakaway shorthanded goal to
tie the game. Four on four overtime saw
both teams controlling the play, until the
1:12 minute mark, when Southpoint stole the
puck at their blue line and stole in to
score. Matt Ferguson stopped 49 of 53 shots
in his Jr. C debut.
at
Mooretown
Alvinston Flyers win 5 – 4 in Mooretown in a
shootout.
The Flyers travelled to Mooretown for a fast
paced, physical matchup with the Flags. In a
back and forth game, the Flyers and
Mooretown finished regulation tied with four
a piece. Goal scorers were Dan Warner with
an assist from Jake McPhail, Warner from
Chris Edwards and Jeff Johnson, Edwards from
Ryan Dayman and Parker Simpson and Chad
Rainsberry (his first career Jr. C goal)
with an excellent one timer at the corner of
the net from Edwards. Five minutes of four
on four overtime solved nothing and the game
went into shootouts. Joe Archer, Brock
Pinell and Chris Edwards all scored for
Alvinston while Brandon Campbell stopped 1
of 2 Mooretown shooters to claim the
victory. Campbell stopped 46 of 50 shots in
the game.
The Alvinston Flyers next play on Wednesday
Sept. 29 in Wallaceburg and in Watford on
Friday, October 1st against Blenheim at 8:30
