Legionnaire Rookie Honoured at
the Annual Western Ontario Hockey Awards

Tanner Ferguson of the Sarnia Legionnaires picked up two honours last night at the annual Western Ontario Hockey Conference awards banquet.

The 16-year-old was named the league's 'Rookie Defenceman of the Year' and was also selected for the novice all-star team.

Ferguson, who has been drafted by the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL, had two goals and 14 assists in 49 contests.

Other awards included:

  • Rookie of the year – Seth Griffith of the St. Marys Lincolns, who also won the award for most points by a novice player.

  • Mike Ostropolec was named the loop's Player of the Year.

  • Sportsmanship (and outstanding ability) – Adam McKee of the London Nationals.

  • Top scorer – Adam McKee of the Nats.

  • Defensive forward – Andrew McCombe of the Strathroy Rockets.

  • Top defenceman – Dave Sharpe, LaSalle Vipers.

  • Lowest goals against – Nationals netminders Mike Coulter and Taylor Edwards.

  • Coaching staff of the year – Strathroy Rockets.

Also of note to local Jr. 'B' hockey fans was the fact that Sarnia native Chris Rocca, a left-winger with the St. Thomas Stars was named to the first all-star team. Former Legionnaire defenceman Josh Cornelissen was named to the first all-star squad as well.
