Where are they Now?

Former Sarnia Legionnaire scoring ace Matt Abercrombie registered the 100th regular season goal of his spectacular Jr. 'B' hockey career last night.

Playing for the Thorold Blackhawks in a game against the Wheatfield Blades, the lanky forward blinked the red light twice, gaining the 99th and 100th goals of his career in the process.

He reached the century mark in his 191st game. Along with his goals, he has earned 170 assists during his career.

Abercrombie, a Sarnia native, played three years in his home town, setting a number of milestones along the way.

Among other things, on Sept. 11, 2008 he became the first Legionnaire to score a goal in 38 years when he got the opening marker in the team's first game since Jan. 31, 1970. From there, he went on to win the Western Ontario Hockey Conference scoring championship with 29 goals, 55 assists and 84 points. In the playoffs, he scored six goals and 25 assists as Sarnia won the Weir Cup, giving the team its sixth crown under the Legionnaire nickname.

In all, he scored 12 goals and 39 assists during his three seasons in Sarnia.

Abercrombie, who left the city to attend Brock University in St. Catharines, is leading the Golden Horseshoe league in scoring this winter with 34 goals, 44 assists and 78 points.
