Former Sarnia Legionnaire Chris McGuffin is doing well as a rookie in the Ontario University Athletics Association.

McGuffin has one goal and five assists in 12 games with the UOIT Ridgebacks men's hockey team.

The big right-winger is studying communications at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, which is located in Oshawa.

His first goal came in a contest earlier this month in which the Ridgebacks defeated the Brock University Badgers 8-0.

Last year, McGuffin played 49 games for the Legionnaires, picking up 42 points on 26 goals and 16 assists. Among Sarnia players, only Matt Abercrombie scored more regular season goals (29) than McGuffin.

In the playoffs, McGuffin blinked the red light four times and added eight assists. One of his goals came in the championship game in which the Legionnaires knocked off the London Nationals 4-1 to win the Weir Cup.
