The Sarnia Legionnaires
relied on strong goaltending
and brilliant work from
their special teams to
defang the LaSalle Vipers
4-2 Wednesday.
The road win gives the
Legionnaires a 6-5-4 record.
Coach Jeff Perry's squad got
powerplay goals from Owen
Rogers, Joel Steeves and
captain Tyler Cicchini to
pick up the victory. For all
three marksmen it was their
sixth goal of the campaign.
Tanner Garrick lit the lamp
for the second time this
year with the two clubs
playing at even strength.
Sarnia's penalty killers
were flawless all night,
despite the fact that the
Legionnaires were two men
short on two separate
occasions.
It was a good road win,
Perry said. I knew special
teams would be important and
our powerplay executed much
better tonight (than they
did last week). They cashed
in three times. And our
penalty killing was
outstanding.
Perry singled out
newly-acquired goalie Jesse
Raymond for praise, saying,
He was rock-solid in the
net. He gave us the
opportunity to win.
Raymond made 29 saves, a
number of them of the timely
variety, including one in
the third period with the
Vipers pressing the issue.
The Legionnaires, who are
only one point behind third
place St. Marys, will try to
move further up the
standings tonight (Thursday,
Oct. 22 when they host the
St. Thomas Stars. Game time
at the Sarnia Arena is 7:30
p.m. Tonight is Family
