Another weekend
split for the Sarnia Jr. Sting Major Midget A/AA
Oct 30th:
Sarnia vs London North Nationals
Sarnia traveled to London to take on the Nationals.
Despite being short 5 players, the Sting scored right
out of the gate off the stick of Justin Stymest, fed by
Derek D'Andrea and Stewart Fisher. The Nationals tied it
on a powerplay, and at the end of the first we were all
even 1-1. In the second, the Nationals went up 2-1 but
the Sting shot right back with a goal of their own from
D'Andrea helped out by Ryan Dayman to make it 2-2. Both
sides had their chances but as the buzzer sounded to end
the second period we were all even. The Sting took
control of the third period and scored the go ahead goal
on a nice shot from Viktor Kovacs from Graeme Wattie.
Sarnia rounded out the scoring on a empty netter from
Kovacs on a nice feed from Taylor Smith. The Sting
skates away with a well deserved 4-2 win. Ben Johnson
picked up the win between the pipes for the Sting.
Oct 31st:
Sarnia vs London Gold
This game would be a tough
one as London Gold was battling for first place overall.
London would draw first blood this Halloween night,
scoring twice to go up 2-0. The Sting replied and
managed to come within one on a nice goal from Viktor
Kovacs set up nicely by Derek D'Andrea and Jordan
McBeath. The second period saw no scoring thanks to the
heroic efforts of goalie Zac Lippiatt who once again was
standing on his head to keep the puck out of the Sting
net. In the third period each side came close and as the
clock wound down Sarnia pulled their goaltender for the
extra attacker only to have London pop an empty netter
and skate away with the victory, 3-1.
