Major Midgets
pick up 2 ties on the weekend, undefeated in four games!
November 27 - 29, 2009
Game 1:
Sarnia vs Brantford 99'ers
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Major Midgets took on the Brantford
99'ers Friday night in a high scoring affair. Brantford
scored first, but the Sting bounced back on a unassisted
goal from the Sting captain Graeme Wattie. The
99'ers managed to score another goal to go up 2-1 to
close out the first period. In the second, the Sting let
down a little as Brantford found the twine twice more.
Sarnia turned up the pressure following that, and
notched one of their own from Viktor Kovacs
assisted by David Sparks. At the close of the
second, the 99'ers held the lead at 4-2. The boys seem
to find their groove and played a much tighter third
period. Brantford got another goal, to go up by a score
of 5-2, but Sarnia came on strong and scored 3 goals in
the third, Derek D'Andrea from Ryan Jennings
on the powerplay and D'Andrea again from
Jordan McBeath, At the 8:22 mark of the third Sarnia
was handed another powerplay and wasted no time finding
the twine as Viktor Kovacs blasted a shot to the
back of the net assisted by Taylor Smith. As the
clock wore down both sides had chances but as the final
buzzer sounded Sarnia earned the 5-5 tie. Zac
Lippiatt played a fine game between the pipes for
the Sting.
Game 2:
Sarnia vs West London
Sunday night the boys were
off to London to play the high scoring West London
Hawks. The Sting got the only goal of the first period
on a nice tip in from Chris Taylor helped out by
Taylor Smith. The second period saw the Hawks get
two goals of their own, but Sarnia bounced back to tie
it up 2-2 on a beautiful goal from Derek D'Andrea
with some nice passing from Graeme Wattie and
David Sparks, and at the end of two it was all even.
The third period saw the rubber find the back of the
nets on both sides. West London scored two more goals
but the Sting would answer back with two of their own.
Scoring for the Sting was Viktor Kovacs, and
Chris Taylor (who had a 3 point night) helpers going
to Wattie, D'Andrea and Taylor. As
the final bell rang the Sting skated away with their
second tie of the weekend. Ben Johnson played a
strong game between the pipes coming up with some
crucial saves to secure the tie.
