Mooretown Rep Tournament

November 15,  2009
Sarnia Sting Atom MD's Win Mooretown Storm Tourney in O.T.

The Sarnia Sting Atom MD's claimed Championship Honours in the Mooretown Storm Rep / AE Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Mooretown with a nail biting come from behind victory. After 4 overtimes, the Sting won in a shootout over the Ayr Flames 2 - 1. Sarnia's only previous loss of the tourney came at the hands of Ayr, by the same 2 - 1 score, but the Sting weren't going to get " burned " twice.

Jack McAuley was the hero of the day, in a day of heroes, scoring as the 6th shooter ( with a nice deke ) to secure the win for the Sting. Adam L'Heureux was the 3rd shooter and he scored to extend the shootout after Ayr's 2nd shooter had scored. McAuley put Sarnia ahead and Ayr failed to match - with stellar goaltending from the Sting's Hunter Taylor ( allowing only 1 of 6 shooters to score ) giving Sarnia the victory.

The 1st period of the game was scoreless, despite the Sting having many good chances to score. Ayr opened the scoring midway through the 2nd period, despite the Sting outchancing and outshooting the Ayr team - being continually frustrated by the hot glove of the Flame goaltender. Julian D'Agostini finally put Sarnia on the board, making no mistake, beating the goalie stick - side. Assisting on the play were Jacob Serratore and Brent Tunstill. After that it was all Sarnia, allowing only 1 shot in the 3rd period. The defensive corps. of Brent Tunstill, Aidan Manery, Jakeb Gray, Matthew Clouse, Jack McAuley and Jordan Marks continually shut down any Ayr offensive opportunities, but Sarnia failed to score another goal to end regulation time tied at 1 - 1.

The overtime format featured 2 minutes each of  5 on 5, 4 on 4, 3 on 3, and 2 on 2, with many chances for both teams, but the game was ultimately settled in the shootout.

Members of the winning team are Julian D'Agostini, Dylan Schroeter, Brent Tunstill, Adam L'Heureux, Aidan Manery, Jordan Marks, Keelan Kells, Brennan Healy, Dustin Dennett, Jacob Serratore, Jakeb Gray, Matthew Clouse, Tyler Vanderkloet, Jack McAuley, Eric Capes, Hunter Taylor, and Hendrik Lindhout.
