Sarnia vs Woodstock
January 9, 2010
The Sarnia Jr. Sting
Major Atom MD's opened their Forest City League Playoffs
with a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Woodstock Jr. Navy
Vets at the Clearwater Arena on Saturday. The Jr. Navy Vets
started out very strong in the first few minutes pinning the
Sting into their own end, but the momentum changed quickly
when a speedy Julian D'Agostini picked up a loose puck in
his own end made a nice deke past the defenceman trying to
hold the puck in. D'Agostini sped down the ice on the
breakaway and buried it for the 1-0 score. The Sting had
some jump after this as they scored less than 2 minutes
later on a goal mouth scramble after a few rebounds with
Dustin Dennett batting the puck in, Adam L'Heureux and
Keelan Kells got the assists on the goal.
The Sting continued to control the game and went up by a
third goal 3 minutes into the second. Adam L'Heureux potted
his 20th goal of the season on the powerplay from D'Agostini
and Brent Tunstill. Woodstock got into the game with a goal
of their own before the period ended. In the third, both
teams exchanged chances and continued the fast pace to the
game. Woodstock managed another goal a few minutes into the
period on the powerplay. The Sting buckled down and sealed
the victory with some strong defence and some nice passing
late in the game to seal the victory. Hendrik Lindhout made
some key saves late in the game along with some strong
defense from Jakeb Gray, Aidan Manery, Matthew Clouse, Brent
Tunstill, Jack McAuley and Jordan Marks to keep Woodstock
from tying it late.
The Sting continue the FCHL Major Atom MD playoffs on Monday
with a road game in London versus the North London
Nationals.
