The Sarnia Sting Atom MD's
opened their Regional Silverstick Qualifier game on a
frigid Friday morning with a come from behind 2 - 2 tie
against the host squad, Chatham Maroons.
The Sting started off slowly, falling behind 2 - 0, but
Julian D'Agostini found the back of the net midway
through the 2nd period, after a nice backhand pass from
Jacob Serratore. Brennan Healy tied the game for Sarnia,
after a smooth unassisted end to end rush through the
entire Chatham team midway through the 3rd period. The
Sting had a great chance to win with 5 seconds to go,
but the Chatham goaltender made a great stop to preserve
the tie.
Next up for Sarnia went up
against the St. Thomas Stars. The 1st period ended
scoreless but Sarnia jumped out to a 1 - 0 lead in the
2nd period on a nice top-shelf shot by Adam L'Heureux.
Julian D'Agostini and Jakeb Gray assisted on the goal.
Julian D'Agostini put the Sting up 2 - 0 with a couple
of inside out moves on both St. Thomas defencemen, and a
nice backhand deke over the sprawling Stars goaltender.
Jack McAuley assisted on the goal. St. Thomas got 1 back
before the end of the period to make it 2 - 1. With 5
minutes to go in the 3rd period and the Sting on the
powerplay, St.Thomas picked up a loose puck and scored a
shorthanded goal to knot the game at 2 - 2 and that's
the way it finished.
The Sting now face an
undefeated Georgetown Raider team on Saturday afternoon
in Chatham.
