Petrolia Squires vs Lucan/Ilderton

In Petrolia a lone 3rd period goal by Aaron Brand of the Petrolia Squires gave them a 4 - 3 win in the first game in the Western Ontario Sr. Hockey "AA" semi final series against the Lucan/Ilderton Jets.

The Jets scored the first goal while shorthanded by Joey Pikul  just over three minutes into the game.  Later into the period Aaron Brand scored his first of two for the night to tie things up heading into the second.  Mike Gardner and Ryan Chapman assisted on the first goal.

With 2:21 off the clock in the second Craig Laframboise gave the Squires the lead for the first time assisted by Carson Simpson and Scott Hull.  The Squires then took a two goal lead five minutes later with Mitch Zavitz from Brad Cooper and Pat Sutton assisting.  The Jets fought back and less than two minutes later narrowed the lead when Mike Miller found the pocket.  The Jets went on to tie with 2:30 remaining in the period to tie the game 3 - 3.  Deryk Whitehead scored the tying goal for the Jets.

After the third period goal seven minutes into the period by Brand the Squires and netminder Justin Day were able to hold on to the lead fighting off the extra attacker in the final minutes to take game one.

Petrolia outshot the Jest 34 - 30.

Action continues this weekend with game two in Lucan on Saturday March 6 at 8:30 pm.
