Storm Fall Short

Mooretown recently competed in their own tournament compiling a 3-1 record but losing in the finals.

The Storm opened the tourney defeating Sarnia 6-0. Emma McCormick got the shutout in net but was not very busy only needing to make one save during the game. Jared Pageau scored 4 goals and added an assist with single goals from Elijah Contreras and Bailey Smalls. Drew Pepper contributed 4 assists, while Nolan Gladwish, Rory Pickle, Aaron Dobson, Keith Bogaert and Hayden MacDonald added single helpers.

Game 2 the Storm were up against Kincardine and skated to an 8-1 victory.Evan Musson was sharp in net earning the "W". Jared Pageau registered 4 goals and 2 assists, Justin Murphy a goal and an assist, Bailey Smalls and Rory Pickle single goals. Adding assists were Hayden MacDonald, Brandon Rondeau, Nolan Gladwish, Aaron Dobson, and Keith Bogaert.

In the 3rd game of the round robin Mooretown faced a very good Simcoe team. Jared Pageau opened the scoring in the first period with Drew Pepper and Rory Pickle assisting. Simcoe tied it up in the 2nd and the game was even going into the 3rd period. The game went back and forth but Aaron Dobson was the hero scoring the winner with 33 seconds remaining. Jared Pageau and Justin Murphy added assists. Emma McCormick played a strong game in net.

Mooretown would end up facing Simcoe in the finals on Sunday afternoon. The Storm came out strong taking the play to Simcoe but the Warriors goaltender was a wall this day turning away shot after shot. Neither team would register a goal thru 2 periods with Mooretown dominating the play and outshooting Simcoe by a wide margin. With 7 minutes remaining in the game Simcoe iced the puck but the call was missed by the referee's allowing Simcoe to gain possession of the puck and jam home a goal. The Warriors would add a weak goal 3 minutes later for a 2-0 lead that seemed insurmountable the way their goaltender was playing. Mooretown pulled their goalie with just over two minutes remaining and surrendered the 3rd goal. They continued to press but could not beat Simcoe's goalie on this day. Emma McCormick was sharp in net for the Storm.

It was a bitter pill to swallow losing to a team you just defeated a day earlier but congratulations to the Simcoe Warriors as they are a very good hockey club with a very good goaltender. The Storm should keep their heads high as they played hard every game and never took a shift off.
