This past weekend the Lambton Jr Sting Minor Midget's traveled to Chicago to participate in the world's largest minor hockey tournament, the Bauer International Invite, and although they left with 1-3 record they proved they are part of the elite class.
The minor midgets began the tournament meeting the Florida Jr Panthers and had a strong opening game but dropped this tournament opener 5-3. Scoring for the Jr Sting were Josh Moore, Dan Hachey and Tyler Coleman. Assists came from Tyler Coleman, Josh Moore and Clint Rose with two.
In game two of the tournament Jamie Morreau lit a fire under his Jr Sting teammates, which lasted the rest of the tournament, by stopping 28 of 29 shots. The Jr Sting played a great game and had the scouts drooling, even though unable to break the Chicago Young Americans goaltender and losing finally 1-0.
Game 3....Shattuck St. Mary's, the number two team in the USA and Sidney Crosby is a member of their alumni. What did this mean to the Minor Midget Jr Sting?
It meant go out, play the best hockey you can and come out on top with a 4-1 victory! Hunter Johnson stopped all but a single shot with an over the top performance, while Josh Moore, Nathan Mater, Cody Trowell and Brennan Feasey found the four goals at the other end. Assists came from Tyler Coleman, Brennan Feasey and Matt Cimetta.
And in their fourth and final game, although they had another outstanding performance, the Jr Sting were unable to find the extra goal they needed losing 2-1 to the Philadelphia Little Flyers. Jamie Morreau had another great performance and the single marker for the Jr Sting came from Dan Hachey off a pass from Tyler Prong.
The Minor Midgets now get a well deserved weekend off before trying to begin their quest back to first place when once again meeting defending champion London Jr Knights Gold Monday night in London.
