Tough Weekend: 2 Losses and a Tie
The Lambton Jr. Sting hosted the Chatham-Kent Cyclones this past Friday night at the RBC Centre and
lost 5-4.
The Sting controlled most of the play in the first period and scored the only goal of the period, as Nolan Farr skated coast to coast and beat the Cyclone netminder.
The second period saw a little more pressure from the Cyclones which created some scoring chances, however, Cole Doig made some stellar saves including one on a breakaway where he saved the initial shot and kicked the leg out on the rebound. The Sting added to their lead with another individual effort by N. Farr to go up 2-0.
In the 3rd period unfortunately, the boys let Chatham back into the game allowing 2 quick goals in the first 2 minutes, including a shorty. The Sting did answer back to regain the lead with a nice powerplay goal by Josh Vale, assisted by Cameron Rombouts and Theo Crombeen. However, this did not last long as Chatham quickly responded with 3 more goals to take a 5-3 lead. In the last minute Lucas Ross was able to put the team within one, assisted by Dante Fuoco, but it was too little too late.
Saturday
On Saturday the Sting were at home again, this time playing the Brantford 99er’s and although came out a bit better then the night before still came up short losing 2-1.
The Sting scored the first goal in the of the game midway through the second period with Lucas Ross scoring from Duncan Core and Curtis Marks. The Sting defence played a pretty strong game limiting the 99er’s chances.
However, early in the 3rd period the 99er’s scored 2 goals within 30 seconds and hung on for the win.
Sunday
On Sunday the boys travelled to Cambridge to play their 3rd game in as many days. Things did not start out very well at all. Cambridge came out flying and scored 2 quick goals and looked as if they were going walk away with this game.
However, the Sting battled back hard and by the 3rd period were actually controlling most of the play. The game ended up tied at 4-4.
Scoring for the Sting were Nolan Farr with 2 goals, Cameron Adam with 1 goal and 1 assist, and Dante Fuoco with a single. Other assists went to Gage Langford and Lucas Ross.
