One Goal Games Haunt the Sting Again!

This past weekend the Minor Atom Sting hosted the Waterloo Wolves on Saturday and travelled to Windsor to take on the Spitfires.  Both games were losses by 1 goal, a result that is occurring way too much lately.

On Saturday Waterloo visited the RBC centre and came away with a slight 3-2 victory.  They jumped to the early lead in the first period with 2 goals.  By the second period the Sting were beginning to get some scoring chances and the defensively limiting the shooting to the outside.  It was Nolan Farr who opened the scoring for the Sting assisted by Curtis Marks, which gave a bit of a spark to the team.  However, the Wolves went up again by 2 with a goal with only 41 seconds left in the period.

In the third the Sting again pressed and were rewarded as Gage Langford dashed down the left side making a nice cross ice pass to Cameron Rombouts who buried it in the net.  Too little too late unfortunately.

Cole Doig played goals for the Sting and played a solid game.

On Sunday, the Sting were in Windsor playing at the old barn.  The Sting played extremely well for 2 periods dominating most of the play, but the wheels came off in the third and Windsor squeaked out a 5-4 victory.

Carson Payne started the scoring for the Sting at the 5 minute mark of the 1st, assisted by Ben Arthurs.  From there the boys continue to play well, keeping there shifts short, they were able to maintain a high tempo and control the speed of the game.  Jakob Knowles played well making saves at key times to keep the Spitfires off the board.  In the 2nd period they added to their lead, Nolan Farr scored on a breakaway with a nice deke to the backhand, assisted by Carson Payne.  Then while being shorthanded, Curtis Marks made a pass off the boards to Cameron Adam who sneaked behind the defense and went in a breakaway scoring despite being tripped and crashing hard into the net.  This put the team up by 3, however, put another forward out of commission for most of the 3rd period.  Now the Sting were down to 7 forwards to protect the 3 goal lead.
Early in the 3rd the Spits finally got on the scoreboard but the Sting answered quickly as N. Farr popped in another assisted by Dante Fuoco, which looked like the final nail in the coffin.  However, the Spitfires kept pressing and the Sting began to tire.  Windsor would score 4 more unanswered goals to win 5-4, in a game that the Sting really should have won.
