Sting Take First 2 Games Against Huron-Perth
The Sting played a home and away this past weekend with the Huron-Perth Lakers and came away with 2 victories putting them 2-0 in the series.
The Sting played there first game against the Huron-Perth Lakers on Saturday at the RBC centre and came away with a dramatic 5-4 win.The Sting opened the scoring in the very first shift as Cameron Adam cycled the puck to Josh Vale who made a great centering pass to Theo Crombeen who found the back of the net. Most of the period the Sting controlled the game and any offensive by the Lakers was thwarted by our defense.
The 2nd period was the Lakers period scoring 2 goals to go up 2-1 heading into the 3rd.
Early in the 3rd period the Lakers added another goal and it did not look good for the Sting. However, the boys didn’t give up and 1 minute later Lucas Ross buried a shot, assisted by Carson Payne and Curtis Marks to close the gap to 1 goal. Lucas Ross continued his hardwork and while getting a partial breakaway was hauled down leading to a penalty shot. Ross took the puck from centre ice and skated in letting a nice wrist shot blocker side “lighting the lamp”, making it a 3-3 tie. Minutes later it was Dante Fuoco who batted in a rebound to make it 4-3, assists going to Nolan Farr and Cameron Rombouts. With a 1:25 left in the 3rd the Lakers tied the game and it look as though the Sting were going to let another game slip through their fingers in the 3rd period. But, with only 42 seconds left on the clock it was Josh Vale who scored the game winner, assisted by T. Crombeen and C. Adam. Great finish guys! Lets continue our winning ways tomorrow on the road.
The second game of the series was played on Sunday in St. Mary’s. The Sting skated hard all game and were rewarded with a 8-3 win. Playing with 1 forward missing, Brett Allardyce got the chance to play up as a forward and took advantage of his chances getting 2 assists in the game. Sting proved to be a better team all game long.
