Alliance Playoffs - Series #2 vs Windsor Jr. Spitfires

Game #1

The Jr. Sting hosted Windsor to open the second series of the Alliance Playoffs against their first round opponent of the Playdowns.

Windsor jumped out to an early lead on one from the high slot. Daniel Wellington continued his strong play and scored to tie it up. Nash Nienhuis scored after a nice pacing play between Garrett Miller and Ryan Brown and it looked as though the Jr. Sting were finally going strong. But Lambton reverted back to their earlier play and Windsor tied it up late in the second. No scoring occurred in the third period although Windsor had a number of chances to take the lead.

In overtime both Windsor and Lambton had a number of good chances but neither were able to score. Play ended in a 2-2 draw. Unfortunately Lambton didn’t come ready to play and Windsor did.  Daniel Wellington and Nash Nienhuis each scored one goal. Jack Hackett, Garrett Miller and Ryan Brown had single helpers.

Game #2

The Jr. Sting traveled to Windsor the next day hoping to get a win and take the lead in the series.

Josh Barraclough opened the scoring swooping in off the wing on a breakaway and putting the puck home. Windsor tied it up and were giving the Jr. Sting a game. Nash Nienhuis kept up his scoring and great play tapping home one from short range after Ryan Brown put it off the post off of a nice set-up by Garrett Miller. Windsor again tied it up. It was a nice tap in from Jack Hackett off a shot from Daniel Wellington that gave the Jr. Sting the 3-2 lead.

Lambton did what they had to do to win, holding on for a 3-2 road victory.  Josh Barraclough, Nash Neinhuis and Jack Hackett each had one goal. Noah Myers, Ryan Brown, Garrett Miller and Daniel Wellington each had one assist. Ethan Hunt was strong between the pipes.

Game 3

The Jr. Sting were at home last Sunday afternoon hoping to put a stranglehold on the six point series vs. the Jr. Spits.

Lambton started out strong and Nick DiScanno opened the scoring for the Jr. Sting on a nice deflection off of a Jameson Hart shot.

Patrick Kelly got the call in net and made a couple of really nice saves in the second half of the first period to keep the one goal lead.

Daniel Wellington was the recipient of a bad clearing attempt by a Windsor player and potted another marker to get the Jr. Sting up two. The third period continued to be kind to Lambton and Nick DiScanno got his second of the game on a nice set-up from Garrett Miller. Josh Barraclough rounded out the scoring, tapping one in from close range after Jack Hackett worked the puck low and Daniel Wellington gave Josh the nice feed. The Jr. Sting did get beat a few times, and when they did Patrick Kelly was awesome in net.

Lambton now has a point lead of 5-1 Nick DiScanno had two goals. Daniel Wellington had a goal and an assist. Josh Barraclough had a goal. Jameson Hart, Jacob Williams, Garrett Miller and Jack Hackett each had single assists.

Game 4
The Jr. Sting traveled to Windsor on Friday night looking for the win to end the hard fought series against the Jr. Spitfire squad.

After a scoreless first period Daniel Wellington continued his fine play scoring on a solo effort. Wellington blocked a point shot with his head and then deftly deked out the Windsor D before going five-hole on a backhander. Windsor quickly tied it up and reminded the Jr. Sting that they were going to have to play a full three periods to win. After what appeared to either be a goal or at the minimum a penalty shot was denied, Josh Barraclough got the lead for Lambton tipping in a point shot by Cade Robbins after a nice face-off win by Jack Hackett. That goal seemed to get Lambton going and Daniel Wellington potted his second of the night, busted down the left side and putting it in “top shelf” on another solo effort.

Windsor applied pressure in the third and gave the fans in the stands some anxious moments but Ethan Hunt stood tall in the Lambton net until Brennan Mckegan iced the win, taking his time and skating the puck down to score into an open net late in the final period.

Lambton finished the series, winning 7 points to 1 and look forward to the Alliance League Playoff Championship series. It is looking like a rematch of last year’s finals with Kitchener.

Daniel Wellington had two goals and was dangerous every time he touched the puck. Brennan Mckegan and Josh Barraclough each had a goal. Cade Robbins, Jack Hackett and Ryan Brown all had assists.  Noah Myers had his best game since returning from injury, great job Noah.
