Alliance Playdown vs Windsor Spitfires
Game #1 @ Windsor Jr. Spitfires
The Jr. Sting traveled to Windsor to open the Alliance Major Atom Playdowns.
The Jr. Sting were hoping to come out fast and while it took the boys a little while to get going Max Steeves got Lambton the lead late in the first period. Some good goaltending helped to keep Windsor off the score sheet. After some great fore checking, solid effort on the back check and numerous scoring chances the Major Atom’s Max Steeves was the beneficiary of some hard work by Brennan Mckegan and a good pass by Jameson Hart ,and got goal number 2 at the end of the second period. Lambton’s Cade Robbins scored his first goal of the year on a laser shot from the point to put the Jr. Sting up 3 mid-way through the third. Lambton continued to pressure and after a goal-mouth scramble were awarded a penalty shot. The coaches had many eager players wanting to show off their “shoot-out” skills and Danny “Dangle” Wellington didn’t disappoint burying one “five-hole” on the Windsor goalie to close out the scoring for Lambton.
The boys got off to a good start winning game one over Windsor by being excellent in their own end, receiving great goaltending and scoring some timely goals.
Max Steeves had two goals. Brennan Mckegan had two assists. Cade Robbins and Daniel Wellington each had one goal Ryan Brown, Jameson Hart, Josh Barraclough and Garrett Miller each had one assist. Patrick Kelly earned the shutout.
Game #2 vs. Windsor Jr. Spitfires
The Jr. Sting hosted Windsor on Rink 2 at the RBC Centre on Sunday afternoon hoping to go up two games.
Lambton started a little slow but didn’t give up a lot of good shots and the ones they did, Ethan Hunt was there to make the save. The Jr. Sting found their legs and it was Max Steeves who again got things going scoring from close in. Period one ended with Lambton up one and controlling the play. Daniel Wellington would be rewarded for some good play and Ryan Brown and Jack Hackett also scored in period two to give the Jr. Sting a 4-0 lead to end the period. The Major Atoms continued to apply pressure and Max Steeves, Ryan Brown, Josh Barraclough and Brennan McKegan all scored in the third to give the Jr. Sting a convincing 8-0 win.
Lambton played one of their best games of the year with everyone chipping in but anticipate that a good Windsor team will re-group and be laying it all on the line in game three back in Sarnia on Thursday night.
Brennan McKegan was on the top of his game and led the Jr. Sting with a goal and two assists. Max Steeves and Ryan Brown each had two goals and a helper. Daniel Wellington and Jack Hackett each had a single marker and an assist. Josh Barroclough had a goal. Garrett Miller and Jacob Williams each had single helpers. Ethan Hunt was up to the task and also posted a shut-out.
Game #3 vs. Windsor Jr. Spitfires
Windsor was back in town for game three on Thursday night
The Jr. Sting got into penalty trouble in the first period going two men down for over two minutes but some great penalty killing allowed Lambton to re-group and get out unscathed. Ryan Brown got the Jr. Sting up one late in the period going “Roof Daddy” on the Windsor goalie after a beautiful pass from Max Steeves. The game stayed that way until late in period two when Jack Hackett scored a highlight reel goal, a one-timer that Daniel Wellington laid out for him. Windsor finally scored their first goal of the series early in the third and reminded the Jr. Sting that they weren’t going to give up. The Major Atoms dug deep and after some strong play forced Windsor to take two penalties and Garrett Miller buried a wrister after sneaking in from the point on the 5 on 3 Power Play. Daniel Wellington would put the game on ice scoring on a nice individual effort after going strong to the net and the game ended in a 4-1 victory for the Jr. Sting.Daniel Wellington and Ryan Brown (with his best game of the series) both had a goal and an assist. Garrett Miller and Jack Hackett each had single markers. Max Steeves chipped in with an assist. Patrick Kelly was again strong between the pipes and was a big reason why Lambton was able to sweep the Jr. Spitfires from Windsor.
Next up for Lambton is a date with the strong London Jr. Knight’s Gold Squad on the weekend.
