The Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting Bantam
B's have capped of their already successful season
by adding the OWHA Provincial Silver Medal to their
list of accomplishments.
In a season which
saw them win their LLFHL division with a 20-1-1
record, win the Guelph Thunder Tournament and finish
with silver at the Stratford Aces Tournament the
Provincial Medal capped off the season.Sarnia's
record at these Provincials was 5 wins and 1 lose.
The round robin
began with a 4 to 3 win over the Russell Coyotes
from the Otttawa area. Sarnia's goal scores were
Jenelle Labadie [2], Brianne Biggers , and Alex
Godfrey. Assisting were Emily Regan and Godfrey.
Game 2 was
against the Etobicoke Dolphins was a 4-0 win with
Godfrey , Rawlings and Labadie with 2 short handed
leading the way. Helping with the assists were Carly
Stamm and Katelin Williams.
The final round
robin game win of 3 to 0 versus Durahm West secured
Sarnia top spot in their pool with Brittany
Quackenbush getting her second shut-out .
Quackenbush played the entire Tournament as Melissa
Bennett Sarnia's other starting goaltender out with
an injury cheered from the sidelines. Adding to the
goal count were McKayla Eves, Williams and Godfrey
while assists went to Jorrie Kirby, Makenna
Harrison, Biggers and Labadie.
The Quarter Finals versus Markham -Stouffville
proved to be a great success as Sarnia scored early
and often on their way to a 4 to 0 shut-out for
Quackenbush. Jenelle Labadie kept up her torrid pace
with 2 goals and an assist, as Nathalie Pringle and
Biggers also found the back of the net. Assist went
to Gofrey[2], Biggers, Eves, Harrison and Emily
Hodgins.
Medal Round play against the Kincardine Kinucks was
the next order of business with the winner going to
the Gold Medal Game. To help secure this Rawlings
scored at the 5 minute mark with Godrey adding her
first of 2 for this game less than two minutes
later. The helpers on these goals were Danielle
Quinn [2], Williams, Regan and Labadie [2].
With the win Sarnia now faced the Smith Falls Cubs
for Gold. The game lived up to billing with end to
end play. Smith Falls struck first and carried a 1-0
lead into the second period before Eves scored
Sarnia's first from Labadie. Smith Falls replied
quickly to be in the lead but only for a short time
as Godfrey banged home a loose puck with assist
going to Biggers and Labadie. With the second period
winding down Smith Falls on the power scored its
second of the period to regain the lead it would not
give up. The Third period play of both teams was
great with Smith Falls leading by 2 but Sarnia with
the extra attacker on scored as Labadie from Godfrey
drew Sarnia within one but an empty netter and a
last second goal gave Smith Falls the 6 to 3 win and
Sarnia the Silver Medal.
