The Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting
Bantam B's have started league play this past
weekend with a 3 to 1 win over the Woolwich Wild.
First period play was a
feeling out process with both teams getting chances
but no one scoring. In the second period the scoring
came quickly for Sarnia. Two goals within 26 seconds
gave Sarnia a 2-0 lead. Sarnia's first goal of the
regular season went to Nathalie Pringle. On a set
play from the face-off McKayla Eves drew the puck to
Pringle in the high slot from where she beat the
Woolwich net minder glove side. The second goal also
involved Eves who on her own beat the defence from
the blue line in and deposited a nice shot up and
over the Woolwich goalie. Late in this period Sarnia
drew a penalty and Woolwich scored a power play
goal. With the game lead now only one Sarnia net
minder Brittany Quackenbush and her defence
consisting of Emily Donkers, Danielle Quinn, Emily
Regan, and Carly Stamm kept Woolwich at bay.
Sarnia put the game out of
reach on a power play goal from Amy Rawlings who
tipped a Stamm point shot. Stamm's shot was made
possible by a great feed from Alex Godfrey. Sarnia's
entire group of forwards consisting of Makenna
Harrison , Emily Hodgins, Jenelle Labadie, Jorrie
Kirby, and Katelin Williams shut down Woolwich for
the win.
