Guelph Thunder Tournament
January 8 - 10, 2010
Sarnia's Jr. Lady Sting Bantam B's struck gold at
the Guelph Thunder Tournament this past weekend.
Sarnia's first game versus Niagara Falls was a
exciting game as Sarnia's defence led by Carly Stamm
dominated their opponent. Sarnia's lone goal did not
occur until Jenelle Labadie on a penalty shoot tied
the game in the third period for Sarnia to secure
the one point. Game two versus the host team Guelph
proved more productive as Sarnia overwhelmed them 7
to 0.
Scoring for Sarnia were Brianne Biggers {2},
Makenna Harrison, Alex Godfrey, Amy Rawlings,
Nathalie Pringle and Emily Hodgins. Assists went to
Labadie {4},Godfrey {2}, Katelin Williams {2},
Harrison, Emily Regan , Emily Donkers and the
shut-out to Melissa Bennett.
Game three was against the Woolwich Wild a familiar
league opponent and proved to be an excellent game
with Sarnia taking the win by the score of 4 to 0.
Sarnia's goal scorers were Labadie {2}, Godfrey, and
Pringle. Assisting on the goals were Regan,
Harrison, McKayla Eves with the shut-out going to
Brittany Quackenbush.
Sunday morning's semi-final opponent were the
Tillsonburg Lightning and the Sarnia girls did not
disappoint scoring early in the first period and
taking the win by the score of 4 to 1. Melissa
Bennett was solid in net for the win while Jorrie
Kirby, Labadie , Harrison and Biggers provided the
goals. Assist were aplenty going to Danielle Quinn,
Regan {2}, Donkers, Williams, Godfrey, Biggers, and
Rawlings.
The Championship Game proved to be nothing short of
great as Sarnia faced the Woolwich Wild in a
rematch. Woolwich struck early in the first period
scoring twice before three minutes had passed, after
this point Quackenbush slammed the door shut not
allowing another goal. It was not till late in the
second period that Sarnia on a power play scored
from the point on a Donker's wrist shot {unassisted}
and Sarnia cut the deficit in half. The third period
was Sarnia's strongest as their conditioning pushed
them past the Wild and with only one minute and
twenty seconds left and an empty net Sarnia's
Godfrey tipped a Donker's point shoot past a
determined Wild net minder to tie the game and sent
it to a five minute four on four overtime. The
overtime play was great as again Sarnia's
conditioning dominated with Labadie getting her
second assist of the game as she sent Godfrey in
alone past a tired Wild defence and the winning goal
on a nice wrist shoot.
In league play Sarnia sits in first place in the
Margot Page Division of the LLFHL with 16 wins, 1
lose ,1 tie ,56 goal for and 18 against and 33
points with 4 games remaining.
