2024 Joe DeRush Memorial Award
The Joe DeRush Memorial Award and Scholarship is presented each year to recognize local athletes with disabilities who performs in competitive events at the regional, provincial, national or international level.  This athlete displays leadership qualities both on and off the field, with the team, in his or her school and within his or her community. Criteria includes:  performance, leadership, positive attitude, sportsmanship,

dedication and fair-play philosophy.

 

Katie Rivait - Daniel Bobar
Daniel Robar and Katie Rivait are co-winners of this award, which is for athletes with disabilities.

Katie Rivait won the Staff Trophy and Principals' Award at Alexander MacKenzie Secondary School.

She participated in track and field, sledge hockey, basketball and floor hockey.

She also took part in the Special Olympics.
Robar has been a prominent athlete with Special Olympics Sarnia, taking part in power lifting and athletics for many years. In 2024 he qualified for the Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Games.

He won the 2024 Special Olympics Sarnia inspire award, which recognizes individuals who excel in team spirit.
