June 12, 2010Tomlinson, a rugged forward with the
Legionnaires hockey club, won a split decision on the
weekend over Shawn Hill of London to bring his won-lost
ring record up to 2-1.
Tomlinson's coach, Tim Taylor of the River City
Boxing Club, said, "It went the three rounds. It was a
barnbuster, a tough fight for both of them. It was
close, but Tanner had the edge. He's a very powerful
man."
Taylor said the teenage pugilist has fought three
times since the Legionnaires wrapped up their season in
March. However, he doesn't know if he will get in any
more bouts before hockey training camps open because,
"Boxing is pretty slow in the summer."
He added Tomlinson has been using boxing to stay in
shape during the off-season. But soon he'll be "dealing
with hockey, that's his first priority."
Last winter Tomlinson had 14 goals and 19 assists for
33 points for the Legionnaires. Included in his totals
were five powerplay goals and a game winner. In five
playoff games he picked up an impressive four points,
including a goal and three assists.
He also had 154 penalty minutes during the regular
season and 30 more in the playoffs.
