Alvinston Indians
2009 Baseball
Season Opener
May 5, 2009
Alvinston at Glencoe
Tuesday evening, the
Alvinston Indians opened their 2009 season in Glencoe,
and faced the Glencoe Astros. Alvinston opened the
scoring with a run in the first inning. Brad Young
scored on a pass ball to make it 1-0. However, in the
bottom of the second, Glencoe touched up Indians pitcher
John Ferguson for two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Glencoe
went on to add one more run in the 4th inning, to make
it 3-1. John Ferguson pitched a solid 3 1/3 innings for
the Indians, keeping them in the game, before turning
things over to Brad Young who kept Glencoe's offence at
bay for the rest of the game. Alvinston crept back
within a run in the top of the sixth inning when Joe
Triest scored on a wild pitch, to make it 3-2.
Alvinston threatened in the seventh, but couldn't square
matters, and Glencoe went on to win 3-2 in a well
fought, enjoyable contest for the fans to open the 09
season.
Next up for Alvinston is their home opener Friday night,
when they play host to the visiting Morpeth Magic, for
an 8:00pm contest. |
